Firenze

We arrived in Florence around 4pm yesterday + booked into our hotel. Decent but I wouldn't stand on the floor without socks (aka gross factor). Luckily we spend very little time in our lodging!

So after arrival, the very nice man at the desk showed us how to get around (a very big plus) + we sprinted to our 5oclock wine + cheese tasting. It was awesome! It was right across from Palazzo pitti in a wine bar. We had 4 delicious cheeses + 7 different wines to taste. We were with a brother + sister visiting Italy so it was nice to converse. We thoroughly enjoyed that experience + learned a lot.

Up next was dinner because in case you haven't noticed, we barely ate all day! We went to a little restaurant right by the wine bar + I had tomatoe + mozzarella gnocchi + scott had chicken + veggies. Pretty good.

We then went on to explore the city + eat dessert. Scott got gelato (for the 4th time since Paris) while I had a baby tart with blackberries.

We walked around + saw the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, the Basilica di San Lorenzo, + the Palazzo Medici Ricardi. Then we went by the Galleria dell'Accademia to see when it would open in the morning.

We were so suprised it was a warehouse basically. There was no pretty entrance + everywhere there was graffiti + it smelled like pee. Maybe that is why the man at the desk laughed when we said we wanted to see David.

Well we decided we would wake up at 8 to be there when it opened at 815. And that we did (I know so impressive). So we waited for about 20 minutes + went in + I must say I was very impressed. David is HUGE. I was looking + there was a tour guide talking about him, so I got to learn about him. Fun fact: he ways over 12,000 pounds.

We did our ten minute walkthrough of the rest of the musuem + then headed back to our hotel to check out + make it to the train station. We are currently on our way to La Spezia to spend the day in Cinqueterre. Cinqueterre means ' 5 towns' + it is connected by rail + a hiking path. We are super excited to hike for 5 hours along the Italian coast. Hopefully this train ride goes better than yesterdays!

  1. Lauren, I met a guy from Australia and he said that it's Australian winter now but it is just like Florida winter so you should have great weather when you get to that leg of the trip!
