Our First Elephant

Marissa + I took a great powernap + then headed off to a market area. We took a taxi our hostel called for us + got stuck in yucky traffic.

We loved the market. Me especially! We got some mango for the stroll + then for about 60 USD I got...

A watch (silver with red strap)
2 wooden coaster sets (with elephants)
2 blue throw pillowcovers (with elephants)
2 gold/cream throw pillowcover (with elephants)
A strapless bra (I left mine in cinqueterre)
2 dresses (very cute!)
A tie with elephants (for you dad)

I was quite impressed. I also love touristy chatchkes btw.

After shopping we wanted to eat. But we had overloaded on thai food the day before + were craving vegetables. We decided to go to a mall we had passed + on the way there was an elephant. Yes in the middle of a bustling city. He was really only there for dumb farangs to pay to feed him, hence Marissa + I were all on that. We fed him + I thought he was pretty cute.

Sorry it's blurry

Then we went to the mall. It was so big (7 floors) + so clean + nice. We went to the food court which was the top 2 floors. We went by 100 restaurants searching for american food. We finally just decided on one because we were starving. Amazingly the 'healthy sandwich' was roasted vegetables + it was delicious. Honestly heavenly. Well worth 6x the price of street food.

Next up was Muay Thai boxing. We took another taxi there + went right in. It was so crowded with thai men gambling, but luckily there was an entire foreigners section (with a sign pointing to it) where we got to sit with very few people around us except some farangs.

We obviously had no clue what was going on. But it was still so cool. Then while oogling over a very cute 3 year oldish asian boy who was acting like a boxer/sumo wrestler, we met some New Zealanders. They happened to know a lot about muay thai boxing + taught us how the match works.

In case anyone is interested or oblivious about boxing, read this paragraph....if not don't bother. So they kick up in the inside of the legs + down on the outside in order to stop the flow of blood + create numbness so they can't stay up on 2 feet. Also, they win by points, so everytime they kick or hit or knee the other player they get a point + most points win. And if they knock out the other player they win.

Anyways, so we finally understood the game + then it got interesting/sad. The younger boys started coming out + eventually one of them was knocked out + taken out on a stretcher. We took a tuk tuk home + fell asleep so we could wake up at 6am to go on a day trip to the floating market, kanachaburi, + the tiger temple. We are currently on the bus...
