Tourist day

Today was a long, long day. It is 430 + we just left the tiger temples, but ill start from the beginning.

We took a van tour that started at the floating market, about an hour away from Bangkok. Fortunately, Marissa + I had done some previous shopping + soon realized how overpriced the floating market is. Everything there we could get on the streets for much less. We went around in a boat for a little bit but it was so hot + we weren't buying anything. So we got a popsicle + sat by a fan. The floating market was so touristy + we weren't too impressed. No thai people actually shop there. We would not really reccomend it. But if you do go, we would avoid the boats because it is too hot + overpriced to even go on one + they just bring you to their friends' stalls + try + make you buy stuff.

These are common toilets in Thailand ... we avoid them

Next stop was the cobra show! This was thrown in at the last moment (for bahts of course), but we really liked it. We got to take pictures with a really big python. It was actually kind of scary with this 90 pound snake wrapped around our necks. The show itself was funny. They started with a cobra, then jumping snakes, + then three mangrove snakes. I have plenty of videos if anyone is interested.Mine didn't turn out very well

The cobra

We got back on the bus to go to lunch, for thai food. We were a little hesistant to eat thai food, and were hoping for steamed rice + vegetables. And guess what! That was part of what they served. And there was egg + then a bunch of meat stuff. It was very good.

Up next was the Kwai bridge in Kanachuburi. It was slightly hyped up + was actually kind of small. We went + took our usual round of pictures. It was also really high up + there wasn't a baracade to prevent you from falling over. We got about 20 ft before we got too scared. On the way back to the bus, there was a baby tiger + a baby lion at a little stand on the road for pictures. They were really sleepy + we thought they were drugged. But they were really cute. The lion was so adorable, but he was pretty cranky. I didn't get too close. After we found an air conditioned jewlery store + oohed + aahhed over the gody, ugly stuff until we felt not so hot.

Drugging the poor baby tiger (I'm assuming)

The baby lion was not happy

The Burma-Thai Bridge

The best part of the day was the tiger temple. We had to wear pants + short sleeves because it is a temple where monks live + pray. Of course all we had were jeans. We brought them to change into + thank goodness we didn't wear them all day, because I would equate walking through the tiger temple to swimming in a pool. We were walked through the 10 or so tigers by a thai guy holding our hand + directing us, while another thai man shot about 20 pictures of each of us. We are both hoping there is at least 1 good one of us! The baby cubs were up the hill + were very cute. We took more pictures + even got to walk them with a monk. Ya it is weird, they put leashes on the tigers. Not so natural. But the tigers seemed happy. They didn't seem drugged + we were told they aren't. The apparent reason they are so calm is because 1) they were raised in the tiger temple + have grown used to humans and 2) the heat just makes them so sleepy + hot + so they just lay down + relax. Marissa + I decided, though, that if we were really hot + covered in fur (or perhaps jeans), we would NOT want a bunch of people stroking our tails or holding our feet or rubbing/touching us...

A normal day, walking my pet tiger with my monk friend

We are on the 3 hour bus ride home now + pretty exhausted.
